DESCRIPTION

The Division of Community Ophthalmology is dedicated to developing and implementing model programs that serve the community. The UCSD EyeMobile for children's mission is to give underserved children the vision they need to succeed in school and life by identifying, treating and preventing vision disorders by means of: Vision Screening; Vision Exams on the EyeMobile for Children, Outreach and Education and Early Child Development Research.

Under supervision, incumbent will drive the EyeMobile to various school locations throughout San Diego County. Will safely operate and maintain vehicle records including trip documentation. Responsible for all aspects of the EyeMobile operation: patient flow, visual exams and vehicle maintenance. Independently train clinic personnel on use of techniques, equipment, testing protocol and database management system, Manage study documentation, including current manual of procedures, patient log book, and current patient demographic data.

Uses professional community educational program concepts to deliver and enhance standardized educational programs and volunteer educational programs as needed. Analyzes program content and delivery needs to determine effectiveness of current programs and identify underrepresented constituencies in the community. Participates in recruitment and outreach activities for assigned program.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Four years of related experience, education/training, OR a Associate's degree in related area.

  • Working knowledge of departmental and organization policies and procedures; knowledge of educational program content and objectives.

  • Working knowledge of delivering community educational programs. Experience working with community organizations, preschool-aged children and parents.

  • Working knowledge of current community education programs and trends.

  • Working skills to produce and deliver programs.

  • Working knowledge of conducting needs assessment.

  • Good analytical skills to understand how business needs can be addressed through the development and delivery of training programs.

  • Good reading, verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills, and good presentation skills. Ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations.

  • Skill in using business software systems in the completion of work assignments; i.e., Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint.

  • Valid California Department of Motor Vehicle Driver's License and current Driver's record (current DMV printout).

  • Demonstrated safe driving skills.

  • Ability to maintain records of passenger, locations, mileage, refueling, and maintenance.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Familiarity with optometric exams, including testing and patient flow.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, oral and written English and Spanish.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Must have valid California Driver's License and safe driving record.

  • Must be familiar with San Diego County roads and freeways.

  • Must have reliable transportation.

  • Must have California Liability Insurance.

  • Must be available some evenings and/or weekends.

  • Must have current TB test.

  • Work locations include community sites (Head Start Centers, San Diego Unified School locations, and other locations throughout San Diego County).

  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $47,800 - $79,400 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $22.89 - $38.03

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
