DESCRIPTION


The City of Corona has an exciting opportunity to join our Economic Development department as an Economic Development Assistant. The Economic Development Assistant provides technical support in the planning, implementation, and administration of economic development programs to ensure the retention and expansion of the City's commercial, retail, and industrial base. The Economic Development Assistant will provide support to staff and a wide range of programs including but not limited to business attraction, retention, expansion, marketing and promotions, events, and business outreach.

The ideal candidate will embrace the six values in the City's Strategic Plan, learn quickly, be self-motivated, personable, and enthusiastic in serving the business community and residents of Corona. The selected candidate will have strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of contemporary marketing practices.
  • Knowledge of office administration practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of promotional events planning and public relations techniques.
Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to establish and maintain communication and cooperation with a wide variety of business organizations, individual businesses, and community leaders.
  • Ability to assist with developing, writing, editing, and producing promotional materials to create public awareness of Economic Development programs.
  • Ability to exercise sound independent judgment within established guidelines; prepare clear, concise, and complete documents, reports, and correspondence.
Education & Experience

  • Must possess a valid California driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under the City's Vehicle Insurance Policy.
  • Graduation from a four-year college or university with a major in public or business administration, economics, urban planning, or a closely related field.
  • One (1) year of economic development experience is preferred.
  • Or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Applications will be accepted on a continuous basis until a sufficient number of qualified applications have been received. The deadline for first review of application is Wednesday, May 29th, at 5:00PM. Applicants are encouraged to apply early as the recruitment may close at any time without notice after the first review period.

Candidates that successfully pass the screening process will be invited to the in-person oral interviews tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, June 12, 2024. The top scoring candidates from the oral interview will be placed on an eligibility list from which the department may hire. The eligibility list established from this recruitment may also be used to fill the current and/or additional vacancies throughout the City.

The successful candidate will be required to undergo a reference / background check including livescan and pass a pre-employment medical examination (which will include a drug/alcohol screening).

The Organization

The City of Corona is a General Law city operating under a Council-Manager form of government. Policymaking and legislative authority is vested in the City Council, consisting of a Mayor and four Council Members. Members of the City Council are elected by District to a four-year term. The Mayor is selected by the Council and serves as the presiding officer for one year.

The City is organized into the following departments/organizational units: Community Services, City Manager's Office, Economic Development, Finance, Fire, Human Resources, Information Technology, Legal and Risk Management, Police, Planning & Development, Public Works and Utilities. Oversight of these departments is divided between the City Manager and two Assistant City Managers.

The City's total operating budget for Fiscal Year 2024 is $369.9 million with a General Fund operating budget of $ 194.5 million. Corona enjoys a workforce of 860 dedicated employees who provide high quality services to its residents and visitors each day.
