Position Summary:
The Division of Finance and Administration (DFA) provides services and support to over 50,000 students, faculty, and staff with the mission of advancing UCI's brilliant future and the vision of becoming world-class campus partners. DFA serves the university as planning partners, problem solvers, and solutions providers - striving to make it as easy as possible for people to get the services they need, when they need them. Facilities Management is responsible for the effective operation of Irvine campus buildings, grounds and utilities; for providing a safe, functionally suitable and aesthetic environment in support of academic, research and public service programs of the University. Providing comprehensive management of campus facilities requires the employment of approximately 325 personnel ranging in classification from custodians and groundskeepers to more technical skilled crafts such as electricians and plumbers, and professional design staff and engineers. These services cover more than 150 buildings of approximately 6 million gross square feet, and1,475 acres of grounds. Facilities Management has an annual operating budget exceeding $80 million in expenditures, with operating funds of $30 million and $15 million for reimbursable campus activities. Energy Management is responsible for the $45M campus utilities budget which consists roughly $25M in expenditures, $15M in recharge, and $5M in debt payments.
The Director of Energy Management and Engineering leads a complex and multifaceted operation encompassing energy management, infrastructure, facilities management, and construction activities at UC Irvine. This position oversees a team of professionals across multiple units, plays a critical role in achieving university-wide sustainability goals, and operates with a high degree of autonomy. In this capacity, they receive assignments in the form of objectives and determine resource allocation to meet schedules and goals. Additionally, they review and approve recommendations for functional programs and provide guidance to subordinates to achieve goals in accordance with established policies. Erroneous decisions or failure to achieve goals under their leadership may result in additional costs, personnel, and serious delays in overall schedules.

The expected pay range for this recruitment is $150,000.00 - $185,000.00 (Annual Salary). The Full Salary Range for the salary grade this position is assigned to is $111,200.00 - $215,000.00 (Annual Salary).

Required:
  • 7 or more years of experience in energy management, engineering, facilities management, or related fields.
  • 3 or more years of experience in a leadership or management role overseeing complex operations.
  • Bachelor's degree in related area.
  • Professional Engineering License required.
  • General knowledge of key aspects of all engineering disciplines being managed.
  • Highly effective communication and presentation skills to convey complex information in a clear and concise manner to diverse groups.
  • Demonstrated advanced interpersonal skills to effectively interact with senior management, peer level managers and outside contacts on matters of significance.
  • Strong ability to prioritize and oversee initiatives for unit in order to achieve goals and objectives.
  • Strong knowledge of internal and external regulatory compliance relative to engineering construction management.


Preferred:
  • Certificates in engineering management and specialty areas covered by the various engineering disciplines being managed preferred.
  • Broad knowledge associated with the planning, design and implementation of engineering systems in a plant environment.
  • Broad knowledge of campus human resources, fiscal, and budgetary policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate and influence others.
  • Strong ability to work in a highly collaborative manner; readily assess complex challenges and barriers and recommend effective resolutions.
