Primary Purpose

Function as a Non Destructive Examination (NDE) Oversight inspector, including but not limited to the methods of radiographic, ultrasonic, liquid penetrant and magnetic particle examination. Observe NDE Contractor technicians during work activities and effectively reporting conditions adverse to Quality. Ability to understand the requirements of the Standards and all the NDE methods and effectively communicate with Contractors these requirements, set expectations, coach and mentor when the Standards are not being followed. Manage and oversee third-party inspection agencies when necessary, including field observations and or site audits. Be self-directed in managing inspection assignments for contractors and employees. Be responsible for development of standards, work scope and schedule as it pertains to pipeline inspections. Communicate project scope and schedule with field management and be the single source contact for the oversight of work. Support team members, both Company employees and outside contractors, in the completion of their work as needed. Coordinate input from, and participation with, various other departments within the Company as needed to meet project objectives which may include job-site visits and/or on-site inspections.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Analyze inspection data for quality and code compliance.
  • Perform field inspections of pressurized equipment for code compliance and integrity assurance. Oversee work activities and work product quality of third-party inspection contractors.
  • Prepare and present inspection compliance reports and share results with operations management.
  • Prepare scheduling forecast for storage facilities and assist with budgetary planning.
  • Review and approve contract invoices.
  • Performs other duties as assigned (no more than 5% of duties).

$96600 - $144900 / year


Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering discipline, or equivalent work experience required.

Experience

  • Requires 6 years of technical experience, preferably within Nuclear, Power Generation, Refinery or Pipeline industry, which must include a minimum of 2 years' experience performing inspections of pressurized equipment.
  • American Petroleum Institute (API), 510, 570 and/or 653 Inspector Certifications. Required.

Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of instrumentation / equipment as it pertains to NDE examinations.
  • Knowledge of applicable ASNT, ASME, API, ASTM and other industry Standards.
  • Knowledge of computer software systems with an emphasis on database development and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of Federal, State, and Regional requirements regarding compliance with G.O.-112, California Code of Regulations, DOT Part 192 concerning materials, installation, qualification, and inspection requirements.

Licenses and Certifications

  • American Petroleum Institute (API), 510, 570 and/or 653 Inspector Certifications. Required.
  • American Society of Nondestructive Testing (ASNT) SNT-TC-1A, Level II certification in the following Volumetric Nondestructive Methods: Previous certification in or strong knowledge of Radiography and / or Ultrasonic examination, shear wave, phased array, TOFD. Preferred.

  • American Society of Nondestructive Testing (ASNT) SNT-TC-1A, Level II certification in one or more of the following Surface Nondestructive Methods: Magnetic Particle, Liquid Penetrant and Visual. Preferred.

Other Qualifications

  • Required to work in the following conditions: confined space, elevated heights (ladders, platforms, lifting devices), outdoors for extended time periods, evening and weekends as needed.
  • Must be able to wear personal protection equipment such as respirators, hearing protection.
