POSITION OVERVIEW

General Mills, Inc. manufactures some of the most beloved foods in the world, including Cheerios and Lucky Charms, Nature Valley granola bars, Totino's pizza rolls, and Yoplait yogurt. Blue Buffalo became part of General Mills in 2018, so even your pets love us too.

The Vernon plant is the primary manufacturer and distributor of bakery flour products for the Southwest. The plant staff consists of 40 General Mills team members.


As a member of plant extended leadership team, you will support, influence, and lead various plant wide efforts and initiatives. The HSE (Health, Safety, Environmental) Lead, internally called a HSE Coordinator, acts as a coach and advisor to the site, provides support and technical assistance in the administration of and compliance with federal, state, local, and company HSE requirements. This individual will also implement standards and procedures that protect human safety and the environment.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Leads and supports plant-wide initiatives and efforts for site health, safety, security, and environmental

  • Serves as the Site HSE Pillar Owner, primary point of contact and resource for health, safety & environmental issues at the facility

  • Represents the Site during Regional HSE Pillar functions

  • Ensures the impact of regulatory changes on the businesses are being managed

  • Support completion and submittal of required Environmental, Health, and Safety reports for the facility

  • Leads compliance assurance efforts by facilitating frequent HSE self-assessments and tracks corrective action plans to completion

  • Provides leadership, direction, and prioritization for site HSE objectives as part of the master planning process

  • Mentors, develops, and builds capability in Site HSE Process Owners

  • Monitors facility performance against HSE goals and objectives and communicates results to Central Safety Committee. Supports CSC efforts and serves as back-up to Plant Manager

  • Reports company required HSE metrics at required frequencies in GSTEMS

  • Actively participates in change management such as relocation, modification, and decommissioning of any affected facility, equipment, or process

  • Ensures site HSE risk analyses are performed and communicated to Facility Manager, Central Safety Committee, and Regional HSE Leader

  • Collaborates with other Pillars/business functions and participates in special projects as assigned

  • Provides support to the site to address regulatory inspections and complaints

  • Provides assistance in the investigation of significant incidents (fire, chemical releases, fatalities, severe or multiple injuries, etc.) and follow-up on corrective actions ensuring information is shared throughout the Company to prevent re-occurrence

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Safety/Engineering or related degree with applicable experience or relevant extensive work experience
  • Demonstrated leadership traits
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and listening skills
  • Ability to adjust to multiple demands, shifting work priorities, adversity, and change
  • Ability to plan, lead, and execute initiatives in a complex environment
  • Sound analytical and business judgement including demonstrated problem solving and trouble shooting skills
  • Proficient in computer software applications

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3-5 years of related experience
  • Leadership experience in a manufacturing environment preferably in the areas of Safety
  • Strong coaching, and project management skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Working knowledge of local HSE regulations
  • Experience in food and beverage manufacturing or related field.

  • International relocation or international remote working arrangements (outside of the US) will not be considered.

Salary Range



The salary range for this position is $67300.00 - $101200.00 / Annually. At General Mills we strive for each employee's pay at any point in their career to reflect their experiences performance and skills for their current role. The salary range for this role represents the numerous factors considered in the hiring decisions including, but not limited to, educations, skills, work experience, certifications, etc. As such, pay for the successful candidate(s) could fall anywhere within the stated range.
