Position: Licensed Massage Therapist

As a successful candidate, you will:

Under the supervision of the Director for the Cherng Family Center for Integrative Oncology in collaboration with the Department of Supportive Care Medicine, provides massage services to City of Hope patients as appropriate and upon referral by Physician. As a member of newly established Cherng Family Center for Integrative Oncology, this position is will focus on providing direct patient care. As a licensed massage therapist, the selected candidate will collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team including but not limited to Integrative Oncology physicians, nurse practitioners, acupuncture, mind-body medicine as well as members of the supportive care team such as palliative care clinics, pain medicine, psychiatry, psychology and clinical researchers. This individual is responsible to ensure medically safe practices and compliance with infection control practices. Maintain massage supplies and necessary equipment. The massage therapist will assist the participant completion of release forms, screening tools, program evaluations, and any other determined participant tool. The selected candidate will maintain complete adherence to all City of Hope policies, procedures and mission.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide clinical expertise in delivering massage services to oncology patients
  • Perform massage therapy to alleviate pain and promote relaxation
  • Evaluate and document patient services rendered in electronic medical records
  • Stay updated on the latest research in massage therapy, particularly in the cancer setting
  • Maintain a safe environment and adhere to infection control policies
  • Verifies the physician's clearance orders for massage. Reviews chart for contraindications/precautions for treatment and if present, report to physician/nurse before procedure.

Qualifications

Your qualifications should include:

Minimum Education:
High school diploma or equivalent

Graduate of a licensed school of massage


Minimum Experience:
3-5 years of experience working as a massage therapist are required. Experience with adult cancer patients and/or chronically ill patients preferred.


Req. Certification/Licensure:
California Massage Therapist licensure required through the Department of Professional Licensure

BLS

Preferred Experience:

* 5 years or more medical experience with oncology patients

* Possess a basic understanding of health care clinical operations and the ability to establish effective working relationships with a multidisciplinary team.

* Clinical research experience

* Strength in developing, organizing, and sustaining written procedures and documentation.



Skills/Abilities:
* Must possess strong knowledge of massage techniques, procedures, and basic anatomy.

* Must possess sound knowledge of indications and contraindications to massage.

* Must possess a basic understanding of health care clinical operations.

* Ability to establish and maintain effective professional relationships with staff as well as all other oncology interdisciplinary team members.

* Excellent time management and communication skills.

* Enthusiasm for learning and teaching.

* Strong Interpersonal Skills

* Strong written and verbal communication with patients and medical providers
