HOW YOU WILL IMPACT OUR MISSION
The Wildlife Coexistence & Operations Manager is responsible for the SDZWA native wildlife program, overnight team, drone team, integrated pest management team, animal transportation division, vehicle training, and other projects as assigned that impact the operations of the Wildlife Care department.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Support the department wildlife care staff as needed including, but not limited to, hiring, performance management, coaching and counseling and terminations.
  • Transportation of wildlife between SDZWA locations and other facilities
  • Oversees IPM team and IPM contract
  • Responsible for WC vehicle and trailer fleet in collaboration with garage team
  • C&M/Projects liaison
  • Management of native wildlife response
  • Safety trainer for SDZWA equipment
  • SDZWA drone program
  • Management of department safety program

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

JOB EXPERIENCE

  • Must have 4+ years wildlife care and vehicle/equipment operation experience 
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience managing a wildlife and/or facilities department and personnel in an AZA accredited zoo or equivalent facility 

EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree Zoology, Animal Science, Wildlife Management or other related field Or
  • Zoology, Animal Science, Wildlife Management or other related field 
  • Class A License
  • FAA UAC Pilot
  • CPR/First Aid Certified
  • Heavy Equipment Operator Certifications

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

  • Must have knowledge of animal welfare standards, guidelines and best practices 
  • Basic taxonomic knowledge 
  • Exotic Animal management and husbandry skills 
  • Experience with habitat design and maintenance 
  • Able to handle a complex situations with a high level of tact and diplomacy 
  • Demonstrated ability to lead highly effective teams 
  • Able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing 
  • Able to create and deliver presentations to a variety of audiences 
  • Able to work effectively in a diverse environment 
  • Able to develop and manage budgets

  • Salary Range: $86,200.00 – $95,320.00
